New Read

Just went to BORDERS and picked up this book for myself. The Washington Post claims it to be "the best guide for novice and pro shoppers alike."

So, before you think me glib and vapid you should know in the back there is a helpful guide on "useful terms & phrases" in Mandarin. Educational.

Devin calls it "dangerous." I like to think of it as good planning!

Opposites Attract

Conversation I had with Devin after getting home from work the other day:

Devin: The lady in charge of helping us move offered me these bins to put our stuff in and get air freighted to Hong Kong for us.

Me: What did you tell her?

Devin: I told her not to worry, we didn't need all that and it would be better to save the money.

Me: Babe?

Devin: Yeah?

Me: Get the bins.

Devin: That's what she thought you would say.

SUMMER

My favorite season is fall. The weather is amazing and football is always on. It doesn't get better than that. But, my favorite fashion season (to my poor husband's dismay) is SUMMER! It is just so intoxicating! The bright hues the short shorts the long heels the fun sun dresses. The way you magically lose 5 lbs. with the summer tan that has developed and you just FEEL good-you can't help it! Even salads taste good in summer! But, I digress from fashion.

So, lately I haven't been able to walk anywhere without ogling at every store window I pass! It's just so much fun! Which brings us to a purchase that sums up my love for this summer fashion I speak of (obviously exhibit A shown in picture above). Need I say more? How fun are those? So, to all those out there that share in my love for SUMMER-enjoy the season, it will end far too soon!

Whitewater Center

A few weekends ago we went to Charlotte's Whitewater Center http://www.usnwc.org/ with some dear dear friends. We enjoyed a walk and the great restaurant they have and I just got sent a pic from the fun day. Little Z, as we will call her, is a new addition to the clan and she's going to be so grown up when we get back! I can hardly wait to see her little personality come out!IMG_3090.jpg

Marcie's Shower

This weekend I threw Marcie a small shower with the help of my mom who graciously lent us her minivan to cart the million items we needed to take with us to Atlanta. It was so fun to be in Atlanta and get to see the almost done nursery and Chris and Marcie's beautiful new house! We had a lot of fun just being together and it made me smile to think of it being one of the last times we'll be around each other without a little child next to us! I didn't get very many good pictures and still don't really know how to use my new camera but it is what it is. Marcie did get a really cute doll for the baby that a lady from my mom's church hand knit for her along with a ridiculously precious sweater! Little girls are so sweet!

New Purchase

d90front

We just made our first purchase for Hong Kong! If you know my husband, you know this decision did not come lightly. We are as different as night and day when it comes to making purchasing decisions. I am what some would call impulsive (and by some I mean Webster) and need only a couple of minutes to decide if I want something, never looking back with regret once I get it. Devin is somewhat more methodical and analytical in his approach to buying items and it could take him quite some time to decide on actually making a final decision. Devin wanted a desk one time for the guest room and took 9 months researching and thinking over the decision before finally committing to bring the item home. So, the fact that we have bought this new camera is a feat! I am stoked! I can't wait to use it!

Owen's Bagels

We have been visiting this Charlotte institution since I moved here. Same friends, same table and same time every Sunday. We do not keep coming for the service or the ambiance but it has become a tradition simply for the community and fellowship of it all. I will miss our weekly meetings and wonderful yummy bagel creations. We'll have to skype in while we're overseas.

Reponses

Funny things I have heard from people when telling them I am moving to Hong Kong.

Me: "You know it's a 14 hour flight to Hong Kong"
Response: "Imagine how long it would take to drive there."

Me: "I'm moving to Hong Kong for 6 months."
Response: "Well, you better learn Japanese."

I'm sure there will be more to come....

I adore this man. From the day I met him I knew two things. 1.) I want to marry him and 2.) If #1 occurs I will probably spend some time in another country. I did not know that country would be Hong Kong but I am so very very excited that his dream to work internationally is coming true and that I am lucky enough to be the one he chose to do it with! AAAAHHH! I'm so blessed!!!
